Who Is Jesus?
The Bible makes clear that Jesus is ‘God the Son’ who was born into human history (the incarnation) as both fully God and fully man. He has given to us the clearest revelation of God that has ever been or ever will be. He alone has the power to forgive our sins and grant us salvation. In Hebrews 1:1-3 it states, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (ESV)
The apostle Paul spoke of the desire many people have to reduce the greatness of Jesus for a diminished Jesus. However, this then is no longer the one true Jesus Christ. In 2 Corinthians 11:3-5 Paul writes, “But I am afraid that the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.” (ESV)
We understand that it is important for you to come to your own conclusions as to who Jesus is. So, we have compiled the following eight reasons that we hope might aid you in understanding who Jesus is and that you might worship Him as your own God. Jesus was put to death by the Jewish leaders for declaring that He is God. The question now remains for you to determine, is Jesus truly who He says He is, or is He a liar.
Jesus Said He Is God
Mark 14:61-64 “But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witness do we need? You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, “Prophecy!” And the guards received him with blows.”
John 8:58-59 “Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.”
John 10:30-33 “I and the Father are one.” The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
John 14:8-9 “Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has sen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father?”
Jesus Said He Is From Heaven
John 6:38, 41-42 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me . . . So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, who father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven?’
John 16:28 “I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”
Jesus Said He Is The Only Way To Heaven
John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe the you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
John 14:5-7 “Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Jesus Allowed Others To Worship Him As God
Matthew 14:33 “And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
John 9:35-38 “Jesus heard they they had cast him out, and having found him he said “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshipped him.”
Jesus Said He Was Sinless
John 8:45-46 “But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell you the truth, who do you not believe me?”
Jesus Forgave Sin
Mark 2:5-6 “And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Jesus Confirmed Himself To Others To Be God
Matthew 26:63-65 “But Jesus remained silent. And the High Priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have heard his blasphemy.”
Jesus Performed Miracles
John 11:38-44 “Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out. The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
